Use 1–2 Liter from Matrix ™ for every 400 liters. Because most bacteria are internal, it is possible to clean Matrix ™ when needed without damaging the filter. Matrix ™ is compatible with all types of wet and dry filters. Sea water and fresh water.
Application of Seachem Matrix
Use 1 to 2 liters of Matrix ™ for every 400 liters of water. Matrix ™ can be placed in any filter, and is particularly effective in a pot filter. Matrix ™ fairly large and therefore no filter bag is required in most applications.

Each liter of Matrix™ has a surface area equivalent to 40 liters of bioballs (<162 m²)! While plastic biomaterials offer only an external surface area, Matrix™ offers an internal macroporous surface. These macropores are ideally sized for nitrifying and denitrifizing bacteria. This enables Matrix™, unlike other biomedia products, to remove nitrates along with ammonia and nitrite simultaneously and in a single filter. It does not need to be replaced.
