The * Nitrate ™ is an economical and naturally porous material with a pore distribution and geometry with both aerobic nitrification in the first millimeters and anaerobic denitrification in the core. The material has a large specific surface and supports a high density of bacteria. Although De * Nitrate ™ has a capacity to absorb nitrate, as with other nitrate-retaining materials (such as certain zeolites and synthetic resins), this is quite limited and the most important mechanism of nitrate removal is anaerobic.
