Reef Calcium ™ is a concentrated (50,000 mg / l) bioavailable polygluconate complexed calcium intended to retain calcium in the reef aquarium without changing the pH.

Polygluconate complexation has several advantages: it increases the bioavailability of the calcium, it provides a rich source of metabolic energy to maintain peak growth coral growth, and it prevents calcium precipitation / alkalinity exhaustion. Polygluconate contains no nitrogen or phosphorus, so it is biologically impossible to lead to algae growth in a well-maintained reef system.

Reef Calcium ™ uses a chained organic calcium instead of an ionic calcium. When a coral absorbs a molecule in its tissue, it uses the same amount of energy, regardless of its molecular size. However, released molecules require more energy. When an uncharged Reef Calcium ™ molecule is absorbed, the coral acquires multiple calcium atoms and an easily metabolizable carbohydrate with less energy than used for ionic calcium uptake. Therefore, at lower calcium levels, corals can still absorb as much calcium through our organic chains as at much higher levels of ionic calcium.

Reef Calcium ™ can only be used to maintain calcium levels, but will provide a higher level of coral growth when used in combination with an ionic calcium supplement (Reef Complete®, Reef Advantage Calcium ™). Reef Calcium ™ is intended to maintain calcium levels; if calcium becomes severely depleted, a water change must be performed or an ionic calcium supplement must be used to restore the depleted calcium level.

Use of Seachem Reef Calcium

Add 1 cap (5 ml) per 80 L (20 gallons) twice a week. You can increase the number or frequency based on the growth response but no more than 3 caps per 80 L (20 gallons) per day. Each cap will increase the calcium by approximately 3 mg / L.

Notes: Use the Reef Status ™: Calcium test kit to measure calcium. It is not necessary to exceed the total calcium content of 380 mg / l when using this product. Color and brightness can differ per lot.
