Trident - Marine Aquarium Water Analyzer

Neptune Systems Trident requires an Apex (2016+ model, not the elongated classic model) or an ApexEL to work

Neptune Systems Trident is a marine aquarium Water tester

The Neptune Systems Trident is an automated testing system that regularly tests alkalinity, calcium and magnesium in your marine aquarium and then passes this information to your Apex so you can receive notifications and change your dosage.

In conjunction with the DOS (sold separately), it creates a fully automated system for correct dosage of supplements, keeping them at consistent levels.

Trident functions

  • Automatically tests seawater for Alkalinity, Calcium and Magnesium
  • Up to 12 Magnesium (MG) tests per day with an accuracy of +/- 15 ppm
  • Up to 24 Alkalinity (KH) tests per day with +/- 0.05 dKh precision
  • Up to 12 calcium (CA) tests per day with an accuracy of +/- 15 ppm
  • ~ 7.9 ml sample of water used per parameter tested
  • ~ 7 minutes of testing time per parameter tested

Can test for a month before reagents need to be replaced based on base level testing of 4x Alk, 2x Ca, 2x Mg per day.
In conjunction with the DŌS system (sold separately), Trident data can be used to automatically increase or decrease the amount of additives being dispensed to maintain stability at the user set point.

Syringes, bottles, comparing colors, expiration dates - are now a thing of the past for Alkalinity, Calcium and Magnesium. Now, without any effort, you get current values for Alkalinity, Calcium and Magnesium - wherever you are in the world!

How does the Trident

The Neptune System Trident is an independent automatic titration colorimeter. The Trident basically automates what you're already doing when you test your water - that is, run a color-change titration and interpret the results.

On a scheduled basis, the Trident mixes its reagents carefully with a small amount of sample water from your aquarium. While it does this, it is measuring (titrating with a precise peristaltic pump) the amounts of each required to achieve an expected color change (determined by the electronic colorimeter). When the titration is complete, this sample / reagent liquid is pumped to a waste container. It then interprets the results of that test and records the value in your Apex.

Required for the operation of the Trident

  • Apex or ApexEL (not Apex Classic (long black housing), Lite or Jr.)
  • External waste water container (not included)
  • Must be within 1.2 meters of the water source under test
  • SIMPLE PLUG AND PLAY SET-UP
  • From box to testing in less than 15 minutes! Unlike other test systems, there are no reagents to mix, tubes to cut or pumps, and probes to calibrate. Simply connect one cable, two hoses and complete the setup task via the Apex Fusion mobile app - it will guide you through setup with helpful videos during setup.

Consistency and accuracy, test after test

The Neptune Systems Trident tests with an accuracy of +/- 0.05 dKh for Alkalinity and 15ppm for Calcium and Magnesium.

Understand your aquarium like never before

When you start fetching the regular data coming in from the Neptune Systems Trident, you will be amazed at the things you can see happening. The daily light cycle changes the calcium carbonate uptake. A drop in salinity by looking at magnesium. An unsynchronized dosage of calcium. This increased understanding ultimately helps you maintain a better, more successful reef.

Out of range actions and signals

You can set your Apex to notify you or take immediate action if a parameter is outside the safe zone you specify. As just one example, you can dose an Alkalinity solution and a misconfiguration can lead to an overdose of your aquarium.

The Neptune Systems Trident will sense that, alert you and give you more time to make that correction before it's too late and save your tank. The data from the Neptune Systems Trident can also be used to turn other devices (such as dosers or shut-off valves) on and off to further protect your tank.

Automatic dosing - ultimate stability

The more stable you maintain proper levels of Alkalinity, Calcium and Magnesium, the better your corals will grow and thrive. But coral intake from these supplements changes often, requiring us not only to run more testing, but also appear to be in a never-ending state of adjusting our dosage levels.
The Neptune Systems Trident, in combination with one or more of our DŌS systems, solves this problem with Automatic Dosing Control (ADC)

When configured on the Apex, ADC takes the results it receives from the Trident and uses them to gradually increase or decrease the amount of additions your DŌS delivers. But don't worry, we've built this feature with security in mind. With ADC you set your target and your starting dose and ADC only adjusts that dose level by +/- 35%. If it is more than necessary to keep your tank at your target, the Apex will stop ADC, return to your starting dose and prompt you to manually adjust your dose level. Then ADC can be re-enabled and will continue to guide your DŌS so that it keeps you as close to your target value as possible.

It is possible to use ADC for all three tests: alkalinity, calcium and magnesium. You can also use one test value to turn on or off more than one additive supplied by the DŌS (ie Triton system).

Simple, infrequent reagent changes

Using the standard testing schedule of four (4) alkalinity, two (2) calcium, and two (2) magnesium tests per day, the reagent stored in the Apex will last for a full month. Replacing the reagent is super easy - just slide out of the drawer, remove the old bottle (s) and replace with new ones. If you wish, you can also perform a calibration with the supplied calibration solution.

Reagents

The cost of reagents and recurring costs are a concern for a hobbyist considering the test kit or automated system. With these thoughts, the Neptune Systems Trident was designed - to keep those costs as low as possible. Reagent is supplied in 2-month sets (based on the standard testing schedule of 4-Alk / 2-Ca / 2-Mg per day). These kits contain two bottles of reagent A (change every month), one bottle of reagent B and C (change every two months) and one bottle of calibration seawater sample. The reagent kit has at least 240 tests for alkalinity and 120 tests for each of Calcium and Magnesium.

Super quiet

You will hear the Neptune Systems Trident run from time to time if you listen carefully or if you have a super quiet room. Compared to other automated testing systems, it is several dB quieter. While it's in your closet along with other equipment, you'll likely never hear the Trident.

Neptune Systems Trident kit comes with:

  • Neptune Systems Trident
  • Power adapter for the Trident
  • AquaBus cable
  • 1.5m black hose for water samples
  • 1.5 m clear hose for the drain
  • Reagent fluid set good for 1 month
  • Calibration fluid
  • Get started card
