DD Reef Zlements Universal (Part 2)
The Reef Zlements H2P Dosing System is uniquely designed to provide your marine ecosystem with 11 macro elements and 13 trace elements, essential for the well-being of your corals. What sets our system apart is its ability to fine-tune the alkalinity and pH levels in your tank, providing unparalleled control and customization that will allow you to grow corals like the reef tanks below!
Part 2:
Universal
Universal is the renewed Part 2 solution and an essential part of the Reef Zlements H2P Dosing System. It contains approximately 72,000 mg/l of calcium, but also a carefully balanced mix of 13 essential macro and trace elements, crucial for the health and growth of your corals.
Each of these elements plays a vital role in creating a stable and thriving environment for your reef.
Simplified dosing instructions
Step 1
Determine the alkalinity consumption of the aquarium.
This can be done by testing the alkalinity, then stopping all dosing and testing the alkalinity again exactly 24 hours later. The difference between the alkalinity levels is the consumption over 24 hours.
For example, if your first test reads 7.0 dKH and your second test exactly 24 hours later reads 6.7 dKH, your daily consumption is 0.3 dKH.
Step 2
Setting the dosage level for Part 1
Now that the alkalinity consumption has been determined, the daily volume for Part 1 (Complete, pHplus or a mix of both) can be calculated by assuming that for every 10 ml of Part 1 solution you increase the alkalinity of 100 liters of water by 1 dKH.
Adjust the pH to the desired alkalinity:
If pH is not controlled, use Complete as the sole component of Part 1.
If the pH is monitored, you can dose Complete and pHplus at different times of the day to adjust the pH to the desired level:
To increase the pH: Increase the amount of pHplus.
To lower the pH: Decrease the amount of pHplus.
An alternative way to dose is to mix Complete and pHplus in any ratio, or use Complete or pHplus separately. Make adjustments gradually and monitor changes.
Step 4
Setting the dosage level of Part 2
If you know your daily calcium intake, you can start dosing, assuming that 10 ml of Universal will increase the calcium level by 7.2 mg/l in 100 l of water. If you do not know your calcium consumption, but your aquarium alkalinity is between 6.5 and 7.5 dKH and your calcium level is less than 420 ppm, you can start dosing equal parts of Part 1 and Universal Part 2 based on the previously determined daily volume of Part 1. In this case, check the calcium level regularly to avoid overdosing with Universal Part 2. These volumes should be divided into as many small doses as possible and administered evenly throughout the day (ideally at least one dose of each part per hour).
Notes:
Part 1 and Universal Part 2 should always be administered at least 15 minutes apart to avoid chemical interference.
If the alkalinity of your aquarium is above 8 dKH, stop dosing alkalinity solutions and allow the alkalinity to drop to a value between 6.5 and 7.5 dKH.
Likewise, if the calcium level in your aquarium is above 420 ppm, stop adding calcium until the calcium level drops to between 400 and 420 ppm.
If your calcium levels are above 420 ppm, you should not dose Universal Part 2 until your calcium levels are below the recommended 420 ppm. However, you may dose Part 1 to maintain alkalinity as needed.
If any of your macro elements, such as calcium or magnesium, are low, use the individual elements available in the range to adjust them to the recommended values, as described in the list below. Do not attempt to use either component to increase the individual elements, as the Reef Zlements H2P dosing system is not designed for this purpose and will likely lead to an overdose of other elements.
Step 5
Regular testing
Test alkalinity/pH daily and calcium every 3-4 days for the first 2-3 weeks. We generally recommend continuous and consistent testing as we have found over the years that the most successful reefers are those who follow a rigorous testing regime.
Do not allow the alkalinity or calcium levels to increase or decrease during this time. If necessary, to keep the alkalinity and/or calcium levels stable, you can adjust the dosing volumes of Part 1 and/or Universal Part 2 independently - it is not necessary to dose equal volumes of Part 1 and Universal Part 2. Please note that overdosing of either component can result in low alkalinity and calcium levels, along with high levels of bromine, potassium, magnesium and other elements.
Test the salinity weekly and make sure the salinity stays within the recommended ranges which you can find below. Keep in mind that high salinity will quickly lead to coral loss.
We recommend that you check the aquarium water quality regularly with our latest laboratory ICP OES DSOI analyzer. Testing at least every four weeks with the Reef Zlements 2-part dosing system gives
