This sea squirt is well protected in a thick, leathery-tough, sometimes brightly colored, 15 cm high tunic. There are two siphons sticking out, one at the top and the other at the side. Through these siphons, water is pumped into and out of the pharynx through a sieve, on which food particles are collected. The body color of this tunicate is white with purple and orange spots and purple lines. The inside is yellow or orange and is visible around the edge of the siphons.
