Echinometra Mathaei (Rock Sea Urchin)

Echinometra Mathaei (Sea Urchin) are interesting and very useful animals for the marine aquarium. It is an algae eater and is therefore often used for algae infestations. This sea urchin grows to about 15 cm, and mainly moves over the rocks.

These animals in most cases have poisonous spines, but not poisonous to humans, although it can hurt a lot if you get stung. The animals must be supplemented with green fodder when the algae are gone.

They often knock over corals in the aquarium, so make sure they are firmly attached, even small pieces of coral often get stuck on the spines.
