Mespilia globulus – Tank Bred (Tuxedo Urchin) is a striking sea urchin that not only forms a visual highlight in the marine aquarium but also plays a valuable role in your tank's ecosystem. This species is captive-bred, ensuring you choose an animal-friendly and sustainable option.
Unique appearance and behavior
The Mespilia globulus, better known as the Tuxedo Urchin, owes its name to the distinctive pattern of blue and white bands on its spines. This sea urchin is a real eye-catcher and instantly adds color and movement to your reef aquarium.
- Compact size, ideal for smaller and medium-sized aquariums
- Active and curious, but calm by nature
- Known for carrying small objects as camouflage
Functional and useful in the aquarium
In addition to its decorative value, the Tuxedo Urchin is an excellent algae eater. It helps keep the aquarium glass and live rock clean by grazing on various types of algae. This contributes to a healthier and more stable living environment for your other aquarium inhabitants.
- Effectively removes film algae and detritus
- Supports the balance in the ecosystem
- Safe for corals and most invertebrates
Why choose tank bred?
This Mespilia globulus is tank-bred, which means it has been grown in a controlled environment. This offers several advantages:
- Better adaptation to aquarium life
- Healthier and less susceptible to diseases
- No impact on wild populations
Care and placement
The Tuxedo Urchin is suitable for both beginner and experienced aquarists. Provide sufficient hiding places and a varied selection of live rock. Ensure stable water quality and avoid large fluctuations in parameters.
- Temperature: 22-26°C
- pH: 8.1-8.4
- Minimum tank size: 80 liters
Summary
With the Mespilia globulus – Tank Bred, you bring a colorful, useful, and animal-friendly sea urchin into your home. A perfect choice for anyone who wants to make their marine aquarium both more beautiful and healthier.
