Echinothrix calamaris (Double spined urchin) are interesting and very useful animals for the marine aquarium. It is an algae eater and is therefore often used for algae pests. This sea urchin grows to about 15 cm and mainly moves over rocks.
In most cases, these animals have poisonous spines, but they are not poisonous to humans, but it can hurt quite a bit if you get stung. The animals must be supplemented with green food once the algae are gone.
They often knock over corals in the aquarium, so make sure they are securely attached, even small pieces of coral often get stuck on the spines.
