Lysmata debelius (Blood shrimp)

Blood shrimps are useful and beautiful animals that often belong to the permanent clean-up crew of the marine aquarium. The Fire Shrimp grows to about 6 cm and mainly eats parasites and dead skin cells from a fish.

They usually live in pairs and have a cleaning station where the fish come and wait patiently for the shrimp to do their job. However, these shrimp can feed on corals at night.

Shrimp, like lobsters and crabs, only have an external skeleton that becomes too small as they grow, once every few days they crawl out of this skeleton and hide until the new skeleton has hardened, during this time the animal is very vulnerable and will hide.
