USE AND MAINTENANCE

pH meters usually begin to perform poorly due to problems with the probe. The two parts of the pH probe that cause problems are the glass sensor bulb and the reference junction.

SENSORS

The glass bulb loses sensitivity with use and will eventually break. This applies to all pH probes. REFERENCE CONNECTION
The reference connection is a small hole that allows the meter to compare the sample to a reference. The measurement value is generated based on the electrical difference between the sample and the reference. If the connection hole becomes clogged, the pH probe will no longer function.

You can extend the life of your pH electrode in the following ways.

STORAGE

The pH probe must be kept hydrated. Long periods of dry storage will affect the probe's sensitivity. Allowing the probe to dry out can also cause the connection hole to become clogged.
Storing the probe in pH probe storage solution or pH calibration buffers helps resolve both issues. Do not store the probe in tap water or deionized water. This will affect the probe's sensitivity.
The best way to store the probe is with the probe cap filled with storage solution or calibration buffer, and the cap tightly closed to prevent leakage. It is also recommended to store the electrode upright to further reduce the risk of leakage.

CLEANING

Sample residue can affect the sensor's sensitivity and block the connection port. This is especially true if the sample contains a lot of organic material. We recommend regularly soaking your electrode in a cleaning solution.

CALIBRATION

pH sensors become less sensitive over time, so be sure to calibrate regularly to keep your PRO pH meter accurate. Also calibrate after cleaning or after extended storage.
