The surface of the Yellow Ball Sponge, also called the Moon Sponge, has numerous craters. Often it is covered with sand or algae.
It needs moderate water flow near its location, but be sure to place the sponge slightly out of the way so that it only receives indirect flow. The lighting should be low.
All sponges, including the Yellow Ball Sponge, require very special care to survive in the home aquarium. The most critical point is that the Yellow Ball Sponge should never be exposed to the air. If so, the air becomes trapped in the matrix of channels lining the inside of its body. Because air blocks the way for planktonic food to reach its cells, it will essentially starve.
