Elacatinus oceanops (Neon goby) - Tank Bred

Elacatinus oceanops, better known as the Neon Goby, is a small reef goby. The Elacatinus genus consists of small, brightly colored gobies that also have a symbiotic relationship with large fish, acting as cleaner fish. This helps the large fish remove ectoparasites and fill the goby's belly with their main food source: parasites. E. oceanops is one of the most beautiful in the family. They have a white belly and a horizontal black stripe running from the mouth all the way to the caudal fin, and another from the head all the way down the back to the base of the tail. In between, the body is bright blue.

These fish can't really cure an ich outbreak, but they can help keep the fish parasite-free and prevent further outbreaks. Therefore, they should never be used as a solution, but only as a preventative measure. Constant cleaning can sometimes stress a fish, but usually, it doesn't cause any problems and only helps the fish. Feeding them well will likely prevent them from constantly cleaning their food. They don't need large fish and can live in a nano aquarium, but make sure they can eat several times a day. It's best to keep them in an aquarium with sufficient zooplankton.

The Neon Goby grows to about 5 cm in length and once acclimated to the aquarium, it is a real asset.

Tank Bred, what does that mean?

This fish is aquarium bred and will adapt to your aquarium more easily than a wild caught specimen!
