Trapezia rufopunctata is a small, colorful coral crab that naturally lives among the branches of stony corals such as Pocillopora and Acropora. This species is notable for its light pink to cream carapace with characteristic reddish-brown spots. On the reef, this crab actively protects its host coral from predators such as starfish.

Application in the aquarium:

This symbiotic crab is an excellent addition to a reef aquarium with live corals. It lives harmoniously within colonies of branching corals and can contribute to coral health by keeping the surface clean of detritus and small parasites.
Not aggressive towards other inhabitants, but must be kept in a system with plenty of suitable coral structure for hiding.

Key Features:

  • Reef-safe (safe for corals and other invertebrates)
  • Lives in symbiosis with corals such as Pocillopora or Acropora
  • Feeds on slime, plankton and detritus
  • Very suitable for nano and reef aquariums with stable water values.
  • Maximum size : about 2 to 3 cm (carapace width)

Recommended aquarium setting:

  • Temperature : 24–27°C
  • pH : 8.1–8.4
  • Salinity : 1.023–1.025
  • Minimum tank size : 50 liters with sufficient live coral
