The Paguristes cadenati, better known as the Red Caribbean Hermit Crab, is a popular and colorful reef aquarium cleaner. This small hermit crab is instantly recognizable by its bright red legs and striking orange claws with white tips.
It's an active algae eater that helps keep the aquarium clean by removing leftover food, detritus, and emerging algae growth from the rocks and substrate. This makes it a valuable addition to the cleanup crew in any marine aquarium.
Care
The Red Caribbean Hermit Crab is easy to care for and can withstand a wide range of water conditions. It thrives in aquariums with plenty of live rock to rummage around in and several empty shells to move into as it grows.
Make sure there is always a sufficient selection of empty houses available to prevent fights with conspecifics.
Important information
- Not aggressive towards fish or corals.
- May sometimes attack small snails if empty shells are not available.
- Ideal species for both beginners and advanced marine aquarists.
- Suitable for aquariums with a volume of approx. 50 litres or more.
