Siliphos is an iron hydroxide based, effective phosphate and silicate remover for marine and freshwater aquariums. The wet granulate has an extremely high binding capacity and reliably solves algae problems caused by phosphate and silicate (slime and filamentous algae).

Siliphos is a fine-grained material that has been successfully used for years in industry and water management, drinking water treatment and wastewater treatment. The highly active chemical property of adsorbing phosphates in large quantities makes it an ideal filter material for aquariums. Phosphates are created in the aquarium by the decomposition of organic substances, but also by excessive feeding, plant fertilizers or phosphate-containing decoration materials. Phosphates can also enter the aquarium by changing the water with phosphate-containing tap water.

Phosphate is an essential building block for living organisms, but is harmful in high concentrations. In saltwater aquariums, elevated phosphate levels inhibit calcium synthesis in stony corals and calcareous algae.

Due to the enrichment with nutrients, the zooxanthellae of zooxanthellae corals can multiply so much that they cover the natural color pigments of the coral. The corals turn brown. Another indication of increased phosphate and silicate concentrations (silica) is the growth of annoying red or brown algae. These often form a slimy layer on the decorations of the aquarium and can pose a threat to the life of various organisms.

A PO4 content of more than 0.1 mg/l is not tolerable in modern coral reef aquariums. In saltwater aquariums Siliphos is also used to bind unwanted silicates. In freshwater aquariums the upper limit should be 0.3 mg/l. An increased phosphate concentration is often the cause of algae plagues, poor plant growth and sick fish. 360 ml for a maximum of 1,440 l (at 0.5 mg PO4/l).
