Colombo Marine Potassium Test

Professional droplet test for accurately determining the potassium content in seawater. Thanks to the clear visual instructions, the included test tubes, and accessories, the test is easy to perform. This titration test allows for accurate measurements and is specifically designed for use in reef aquariums. The package contains sufficient for approximately 40 tests.

General guidelines

  • Make sure the test tube is clean before use
  • Clean the test tube immediately after use
  • Measure the water volume as accurately as possible
  • Hold the dropper bottle or syringe completely upright while dosing
  • Avoid having air bubbles in the droplets
  • Use a separate syringe for each test fluid to avoid contamination

Test procedure

  1. Take a 1 ml water sample with one of the syringes. Mark the syringes and use them each time for the same test fluid.
  2. Using another syringe, add 1.0 ml of K-1 test solution and shake for 10 seconds. The sample will become cloudy with a white precipitate.
  3. Wait 10 minutes
  4. Add 5 drops of K-2a test solution and shake, then add 5 drops of K-2b test solution and shake again. The sample turns yellow.
  5. Place the plastic tip on the last 1 ml syringe and fill it with exactly 1.0 ml of K-3 test solution. An air bubble above the solution is normal and serves to compensate for the volume in the tip. Slowly add the solution until the sample turns blue.
  6. The amount of K-3 test fluid used in milliliters determines the potassium content according to the table in the manual

Calculation of potassium value

The potassium value can also be calculated manually by multiplying the number of milliliters used by 250 and subtracting this result from 500.

Example: if 0.48 ml is needed to change the colour from yellow to blue, then 0.48 x 250 = 120. Then 500 - 120 = 380 mg potassium per litre.
