Professional droplet test for accurately determining nitrate levels in seawater. Thanks to the clear visual instructions, included test tubes, and accessories, the test is easy to perform. The test ranges from 0 to 4 mg/l, and the contents are sufficient for approximately 40 measurements.

General guidelines

• Make sure the test tube is clean before use
• Clean the test tube immediately after use
• Measure the water volume as accurately as possible
• Keep the dropper bottle completely upright while dosing
• Avoid having air bubbles in the droplets

Test procedure

1. Take a 20 ml water sample
2. Add 5 drops of NO3-1 test solution and shake
3. Add 5 drops of NO3-2 test solution and shake again
4. Add 1 scoop of nitrate powder (tube with green cap)
5. Shake for 20 seconds
6. Wait 20 minutes and determine the NO3 value using the supplied color chart

Adjusting the measuring range

The standard measurement range for this nitrate test is 0 to 4 mg/l. A nitrate level above 4 mg/l is not recommended for reef aquariums, as it can be harmful to corals. When water with a nitrate level higher than 4 mg/l is tested, the test will turn deep red. This indicates a level of 4 mg/l or higher.

To determine the exact nitrate content in that case, the measuring range can be increased to 8 mg/l or 16 mg/l by diluting the water sample with osmosis water (RO water).

Increase measuring range to 8 mg/l

1. Take 10 ml of aquarium water and add 10 ml of RO water
2. Then follow the standard test procedure
3. Compare the color with the color chart and double the reading

Example: 0.25 mg/l becomes 0.5 mg/l, 0.5 mg/l becomes 1.0 mg/l.

Increase measuring range to 16 mg/l

1. Take 5 ml of aquarium water and add 15 ml of RO water
2. Then follow the standard test procedure
3. Compare the color with the color chart and multiply the reading by four

Example: 0.25 mg/l becomes 1.0 mg/l, 0.5 mg/l becomes 2.0 mg/l.

NB

Make sure the RO water you use is nitrate-free. Test the RO water beforehand to prevent the measurement from being affected.
