Halichoeres chrysus – Yellow Wrasse

The Halichoeres chrysus, better known as the Yellow Wrasse or Canary Wrasse, is a strikingly colorful and active marine fish popular with marine aquarists. With its bright yellow color and lively behavior, this fish is a real eye-catcher in any reef aquarium. It feeds on planaria and polychaete worms, making it very beneficial. It needs a thick sandy substrate for sleeping.

Features:

  • Origin : Indo-Pacific Ocean
  • Maximum size : approx. 12 cm
  • Behavior : Peaceful, active and curious
  • Suitable for reef aquariums : Yes – does not eat corals
  • Diet : Carnivore – feeds on small invertebrates, frozen food and granules

Care tips:

The Yellow Wrasse is an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced marine enthusiasts. It's known for its natural pest control—it eats pests like flatworms and small invertebrates that can be harmful to the aquarium. This fish sleeps buried in the sand at night, so a layer of fine substrate is essential.

Comments:

  • Make sure the aquarium is well sealed, as this species can jump.
  • Can be kept solitary, or in a small group if introduced at the same time.

Why choose Halichoeres chrysus?

Besides its beautiful yellow color, this wrasse is a useful and attractive addition to your reef aquarium. It's lively, peaceful, and helps naturally control pests.
