Most refractometers used in the aquarium hobby are not specifically designed for seawater aquariums and use an algorithm for measuring brine (NaCl - instead of seawater) and at a temperature of 15 ° C (59 ° F) instead of 25 ° C / 77 ° F. So a measurement deviation of up to 1.5ppt is possible, which can have a significant negative effect on the growth of coral and color.
