A water sample can be contaminated by nature or by the type of sampling with suspended particles, air and gas bubbles or sediments and can be optically inhomogeneous. Measurements on such samples lead to falsified measurement results, resulting in strong scattering in the measurement result. The latter only becomes apparent when repeated measurements are taken on a sample and compared with each other.
The opacity does not necessarily have to be 100% visible to everyone to be disturbing. However, these barely visible optical defects in the sample can cause measurement errors, especially at low analyte concentrations. High analyte concentrations and the associated strong color complexes often mask very low turbidities, making them invisible even at first glance.
In these individual cases, filtration of the water sample before the actual measurement, the so-called sample preparation, is the first choice.

The syringe filters are ready to use and consist of a PP filter housing with a special fine filter membrane of regenerated cellulose for ultra-cleaning. This filter membrane enables fast particle filtration in small sample volumes with maximum ease of use. The syringe filter can also be attached to standard syringes.

This short guide explains the very simple filtration procedure.

  • Fill the syringe with 10 ml of the sample to be filtered.
  • If necessary, blot away any fluid residue adhering to the syringe tip with a clean, dry paper towel.
  • Place the syringe filter on the filled syringe.
  • Filter the sample into the sample cuvette by gently pressing the syringe plunger.
  • Sample Analysis; Complete!
