Phosphate is one of the nutrients with a high consumption and often low availability in the reef aquarium and in the unpolluted natural coral reef. Phosphate is essential in many growth processes of the skeleton and tissue of the coral.

In the natural environment of coral reefs, insoluble, particulate excretions from fish and plankton provide corals with phosphate essential for metabolism and growth. These particles can be easily filtered from the water and used by the corals. Tropic Marin® has applied this knowledge in a new product, Tropic Marin® Phos-Feed, for continuous phosphate feeding in reef aquariums.

Tropic Marin® Phos-Feed is modeled after the natural phosphate supply mechanisms seen in wild coral reef environments. Now for the first time in your reef aquarium, phosphate is dosed in a targeted manner, without continuously increasing the phosphate concentration of the water column. This stimulates coral growth and allows the corals to exhibit natural skeletal development patterns and vibrant colors, just like in the intact coral reef under natural conditions. Insoluble particulate phosphates are the most effective way to supply this essential nutrient to the corals.

Application & Dosage

Application : Tropic Marin® Phos-Feed can be added at any time of the day or night. Because the application slightly clouds the water and to take advantage of the corals' nocturnal polyp opening, Tropic Marin® Phos-Feed should preferably be applied around the time the lights are off. The temporary cloudiness that occurs is normal. The water is particularly clear after the cloudiness.

Half fill a container with approximately 200 ml of reverse osmosis water and add the calculated amount of Tropic Marin® Phos-Feed. Mix powder and water thoroughly by stirring. Pour the suspension into the aquarium flow and rinse the beaker with aquarium water.

Dosage:

Start with a daily dosage of 1 ml (small measuring spoon) of Tropic Marin® Phos-Feed per 200 l (50 US gal) of aquarium water. If a phosphate concentration between 0.05 ppm and 0.15 ppm is not reached in the aquarium after four weeks, double the dosage to 2 ml (larger measuring spoon) per 200 l (50 US gal). We recommend not to exceed a maximum dosage of 4 ml per 200 l (50 US gal).
