The Dascyllus aruanus is a striking black-and-white striped reef fish native to the Indo-Pacific region. This robust and active fish is often chosen for marine aquariums because of its lively behavior and strong temperament. With a maximum length of about 8 cm, it is suitable for medium to large saltwater aquariums.

Application in the aquarium:

  • Aquarium type : Marine (reef aquarium)
  • Behavior : Active and territorial; can be aggressive towards conspecifics or smaller fish
  • Group size : Can be kept solitary or in small groups, preferably in spacious aquariums with plenty of hiding places
  • Environment : Likes rock formations, live rock and coral structures in which to hide.
  • Diet : Eats both dry and frozen or live food (such as mysis, artemia)
  • Compatibility : Best combined with fish of equal or larger size; less suitable for very peaceful species.

Details:

The Dascyllus aruanus is a hardy beginner fish for the marine aquarium, but it does require a balanced ecosystem with stable water parameters. Due to its territorial nature, it's important to provide sufficient space, especially when keeping multiple specimens.
