D&D RO Membrane

Replacement RO membranes

This high-quality FILMTECH thin film membrane can be used with any RO unit from a manufacturer that adopts a standard membrane size.

Note that a suitable current limiter must be used on the drain pipe, specifically for the membrane output.

Available sizes

  • Product code RUW013 - 50 USG / day
  • Product code RUW014 - 75 USG / day
  • Product code RUW015 - 125/150 USG / day

What is a membrane and how does it work?

The membrane consists of several thin layers or film layers that are bonded to each other and rolled in spiral form around a plastic tube, also known as a thin film composite or a TFC membrane.

The material of the membrane is semi-permeable: it allows water molecules through while acting as a barrier against dissolved solids (ie: mineral chemical contaminants). As the feed water stream passes over the surface of the membrane, the molecules penetrate the membrane surface, work their way around the coil and collect in the central tube.

The remaining impurities are concentrated and washed from the surface of the membrane into the drain.

How long does a membrane last?

This is a somewhat difficult question to answer because it depends on how often the membrane is used and how well it is cared for. Some areas in the country have much less tap water than others and in these areas the membrane will have to work harder to remove the impurities.

A membrane generally lasts about 2 years, especially if it is flushed regularly. The best way to test the membrane is to use a TDS meter to determine if the water quality has deteriorated.

What is a membrane and how does it work?

The membrane consists of several thin layers or sheets or film that are bonded together and rolled in a spiral configuration around a plastic tube, also known as a thin film composite or TFC membrane.

The material of the membrane is semi-permeable: it allows water molecules to pass through while acting as a barrier to dissolved solids (ie: mineral chemical contaminants). When the feed water stream passes across the surface of the membrane, the molecules penetrate the membrane surface, working their way around the spiral and collecting in the center tube.

The remaining contaminants are concentrated and washed from the surface of the membrane down the drain.

How long will a membrane last?

This is a somewhat difficult question to answer if it depends on how often the membrane is used and how well it has looked after. Some areas in the country have much poorer tap water than others and in these areas the membrane will have to work harder to remove the impurities.

In general a membrane will last about 2 years, especially if regularly flushed. The best way to test the membrane is to use a TDS meter to determine if the quality of the water has deteriorated.
