The Rhinecanthus aculeatus, better known as the Picasso migratory fish, is one of the reef's most striking and colorful inhabitants. Its vibrant blue, yellow, black, and white patterns make it look like it was painted by an artist—hence its nickname, Picasso. This fish is not only eye-catching but also a fascinating animal to observe due to its curious and intelligent behavior.

The Picasso migratory fish is native to the shallow lagoons and coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific Ocean. It is hardy, adaptable, and tolerant of diverse conditions, making it popular among experienced marine aquarists.

Note: The Rhinecanthus aculeatus is territorial and can be aggressive towards smaller or calmer tankmates. It is therefore recommended to keep it in a spacious aquarium with plenty of hiding places and only with robust tankmates.

Care tips:

  • Minimum aquarium size : 400 liters
  • Diet : Omnivorous – eats both meat and plant foods (shrimp, mussels, krill, algae)
  • Behavior : Active and curious, but territorial
  • Origin : Indo-Pacific region

Details:

The Picasso migratory fish can produce sounds by scraping its teeth against its throat – a characteristic behavior within the migratory fish family.
