A non-return valve, backflow preventer, non-return valve or non-return valve is a valve that is used to allow air or liquid 1 to pass through. Usually the medium pushes the valve open when it flows, and a spring or gravity closes the valve when the medium wants to flow back. In other cases, the medium pushes the valve itself shut when it flows back.
With a check valve you prevent water from running back into your (air) pump or liquid tank, with all its consequences. Air or liquid can go from the valve to the water of your aquarium, but cannot go back in through the check valve, which could cause it to get into your pump or diaphragm.
