Lime (Tilia) is a genus of trees from the mallow herb family (Malvaceae). The species of this genus occur in the northern hemisphere in Europe, North America and Asia. About 25 species are distinguished within this genus.

Lime wood is a type of wood that lends itself very well to wood carving, turning and sculpture, because it is fairly soft, has a fine grain and is evenly constructed. The heartwood is pink white to yellowish white and the sapwood white to light brown. A cubic meter of fresh wood weighs almost 1000 kg. In the past, wooden shoes were made from it, among other things.
