The Holothuria (Halodeima) atra , better known as the Black Sea Cucumber, is a valuable addition to any marine aquarium. This sea cucumber is known for its ability to keep the aquarium clean while naturally contributing to a healthy ecosystem. Due to its unique appearance and useful role, the Holothuria atra is popular among both beginner and experienced aquarists.

A natural cleaner for your aquarium

The Black Sea Cucumber helps clear away detritus and organic waste from the bottom. This keeps the sand bed clean and improves water quality. This little creature is ideal for aquariums with a live sand bed and makes an excellent choice for a biologically balanced tank.

• Effectively removes organic waste and food residues
• Supports the natural balance in the aquarium
• Suitable for both beginner and advanced hobbyists

Unique appearance and behavior

With its deep black color and elongated body, the Holothuria atra is a striking sight on the bottom of the aquarium. This species does not burrow, but moves calmly across the sand and filters food particles from the substrate. This behavior is not only functional but also fascinating to observe.

• Characteristic black color
• Quiet and peaceful character
• Not aggressive towards other soil inhabitants

Application and care

The Black Sea Cucumber feels most at home in a well-cycled marine aquarium with sufficient fine sand and stable water quality. This species is sensitive to rapid changes in water parameters, so a stable and mature aquarium is recommended. Ensure that there are sufficient food particles in the sand so that the sea cucumber can feed optimally.

• Minimum aquarium size: 100 liters
• Ideal for aquariums with a live sand bed
• Do not combine with predatory fish or unsuitable crustaceans.
