Apogee MQ-500 Full Spectrum Meter

Full spectrum Quantum Meter (PAR – Photosynthetically Active Radiation) including waterproof sensor with 2m cable.

For all light sources. Also LED.

A quantum refers to the amount of energy carried by a photon. Quantum meters measure the amount of photons between 400 and 700 nanometers. Photosynthesis is largely determined by the number of photons between these wavelengths and therefore this radiation is called the Photosynthetic Photon Flux (PPF) and is measured in μmol m-2 s -1 (micromoles of photons per square meter per second). A portion of this wavelength is not visible to the naked eye and unfortunately a LUX meter also suffers from the same problem. PAR (photosynthical active (available) radiation) on the other hand is a better representation of the amount of light in the aquarium.

The MQ-500 is a handheld meter with a waterproof sensor, the handheld meter displays and stores the measurements. Photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) or photosynthetic photon flux (PPF) has a wavelength range of 400-700 nanometers and is strongly correlated with the growth of plants and corals. For this optimal growth it is advisable to measure and make sure that the aquarium gives enough light.

Apogee Instruments meters utilize an innovative engineered blue lens for improved spectral response in combination with their “cosinecorrected head”, self-cleaning properties and long-term stability.

MQ-500 VS MQ-510

The MQ-510 performs exactly the same underwater as the MQ-500, but the MQ-510 simply multiplies the PAR value by 1.32 to account for the immersion effect.
