Sprat is a fat fish. Compare it with herring. The sprat is frozen in its own fat. This is because otherwise it will dry out too much due to freezing. Before you feed the sprats to your fish, it is wise to rinse them under cold water first so that they lose their external fat and they do not contaminate the aquarium water.
Sprat is food for large cichlids such as the Central or South American Malawi predators. Or species like rays, Arowanas, etc
