CO2 is by far the main cause of low pH in household aquariums. Environmental CO2 emissions can vary from building to building and depending on your location it may not be practical to keep your windows open or draw fresh air from outside into the skimmer.
There is a solution!
By passing the air inlet of your protein skimmers through the CO2 scrubber first, you can increase the pH of your aquarium by a few points. Depending on the amount of ambient CO2 in the room, it is not unusual for tanks to rise from pH 7.8 to pH 8.3 within a few days, but results may vary.
