The Milwaukee MC120 PRO High Range pH Monitor offers lab-quality accuracy with easy-to-see continuous monitoring of pH levels with alarms.

Use and maintenance

pH meters usually start to perform poorly due to probe problems. The two parts of the pH probe that cause problems are the sensor glass bulb and the reference junction.

Detecting lamp

The glass bulb loses its sensitivity with use and will eventually fail. This applies to all pH probes.

Reference node

The reference node is a small unit that allows the meter to compare the sample to a reference. The reading is generated from the electrical difference between the sample and the reference. If the connection hole becomes clogged, the pH electrode will stop working.

You can extend the life of your pH electrode in the following ways.

Storage

The pH probe should be kept hydrated. Prolonged dry storage will damage the sensitivity of the probe. Letting the probe dry out can also clog the connection hole.

Storing in pH probe storage solution or pH calibration buffers will help solve both problems.

Do not store in tap water and deionized water. This will damage the sensitivity of the probe.

The best way to store the probe is with the probe cap filled with storage solution or calibration buffer and the cap tightened to prevent leakage. It is also recommended to store the electrode in an upright position to further reduce the risk of leakage.

Cleaning

Sample residue can affect the sensitivity of the sensor bulb and clog the junction. This is especially true if the sample contains a lot of organic matter. We recommend periodically soaking the probe in cleaning solution.

Calibration

The pH sensor lamps become less sensitive over time, so make sure to calibrate regularly to keep your PRO pH meter accurate.
