Grotech BioPelletReactor BPR-150-Intern incl. EHEIM CompactON 2100 + 1000ml Biopellets

The Grotech BioPellet Reactor BPR-150-Internal, including EHEIM CompactON 2100 and 1000ml Biopellets, is the complete solution for effective nitrate and phosphate reduction in your marine aquarium. Thanks to the...

The BPR-150 Intern is a high-performance biopellet reactor for use in the filter sump of marine aquariums. Combined with the powerful EHEIM CompactON 2100 and 1000 ml NP-Minus BioPellets, this system provides a complete solution for effectively reducing nitrate and phosphate levels.

Features of the BPR-150 Intern

  • Suitable for aquariums up to 1500 liters
  • For use only in the filter sump
  • Dimensions: 165 × 165 × 550 mm
  • Minimum water level: 13 cm
  • Maximum filling quantity: 3000 ml biopellets
  • Included
  • EHEIM CompactON 2100 (38 W)
  • 1000 ml NP-Minus BioPellets

How NP-Minus BioPellets Works

The NP-Minus BioPellets consist of 100% biodegradable polymers. They dissolve slowly over several months and serve as a carbon source for aerobic bacteria. These bacteria convert excess nitrate and phosphate into bacterial biomass, reducing the nutrient load in the water.

When the pellets are used in a reactor, they are constantly in motion. This ensures:

  • Optimal oxygen supply
  • Constant abrasion of the biofilm
  • Efficient growth of bacterial colonies
  • Reduction or inhibition of cyanobacteria
  • A well-functioning pellet reactor works fully automatically: the
  • bacterial population adapts to the available nutrients.

Removal of nitrate and phosphate

There are two working methods:

1. Reactor before the protein skimmer
The excess biomass is separated directly via the skimmer.
→ Maximum removal of nitrate and phosphate.

2. Reactor after or without protein skimmer
The bacterial biomass produced serves as food for corals and filter-feeding animals. Some of it is further broken down in anaerobic zones (denitrification).

In all cases, a good oxygen supply is essential, especially at night.

Advantages over other methods

  • No risk of bacterial growth as with the vodka method
  • No chance of dosing errors with alcohol
  • No unwanted biofilm on glass and decoration
  • No daily manual dosing required
  • Very stable and safe to use

Dosage of the biopellets

  • 50 to 200 ml per 100 liters of water, depending on the nutrient load
  • Start with about 30% of the required amount and increase weekly
  • Prevents bacterial growth in the first weeks
  • Pellets are used up after 6 to 12 months, additional dosing is then required
  • Overdose within the recommended amount is not possible

A bacterial bloom occurs almost exclusively at starting values above 20 mg/l nitrate.

Important points of interest

  • Use only in a biopellet reactor or fluidized bed filter
  • UV and ozone devices can slow down bacterial development
  • Filter sponges and media that kill bacteria reduce effectiveness
  • In case of very high phosphate loads, an additional phosphate adsorber may be necessary.
