First, the water flows through a pre-filter to filter out larger particles. The active carbon filter removes chlorine particles and other contaminants. Smaller particles are retained by the microscopic pores of the membrane. Most of the dissolved solids and other contaminants are flushed into the waste water stream and exit the system. After the membrane, the RO water is sent to the final stage of filtration, a carbon filter, to remove any remaining flavors and odors. The result is pure water
