Acreichthys tomentosus - Tank Bred

Acreichthys tomentosus, better known as the brushtail filefish, is probably the most common and well-known filefish. This spotted fish, with hair-like structures all over its body, is perfectly camouflaged to blend in with seagrass. In your aquarium, it floats slowly around the rocks, searching for food.

Filefish are usually purchased because they eat aiptasia. While this is often the case, some specimens refuse to eat it. On the other hand, they are known to eat coral polyps and their tissue, and this could be a significant part of their diet in the wild. Therefore, these fish always pose a risk to corals. However, they are very friendly to other fish, except those of their own genus.

This fish is bred in our own facility at De Jong Marinelife in the Netherlands and will adapt more easily to your aquarium than a wild-caught specimen!
