Calcean Oolitic Aragonite - Yellow

Calcium carbonate derived from Oolitic aragonite is biogenic and naturally recurring. Protect the reef by using this superior and durable substrate. Save the world's coral reefs by not using coral sand.

Bahamian sand is coarse, naturally renewable Oolitic aragonite sand containing up to 98% pure calcium carbonate. The grains are OOLITE (egg-shaped) and smooth. It is tasteless, odorless, dust-free and durable. Combined with its near chemical purity, consistency in size and small grain structure, Bahamian aragonite has numerous advantages that make it a superior source of calcium carbonate.

Why use Oolitic Aragonite?

Bahamian Aragonite Aquarium Sand is the ideal substrate for marine, reef or African cichlid aquariums. It is a pure Oolitic Aragonite sand collected from the crystal clear oceans of the Bahamas, without harmful tar, organics or impurities. This aquarium sand has an unsurpassed buffering capacity and helps maintain a natural pH balance of 8.2 without the constant addition of chemicals. One kg of Oolitic Aragonite Aquarium Sand covers a surface area of over 1 million square cm and provides enormous space for housing ammonia, nitrate and nitrite reducing bacteria. Oolitic Aragonite sand has the ideal grain size for reef tanks, aquariums, plenum systems and refugiums.

How to use:

Rinse material thoroughly in a bucket with clean water. Do not use soap or other cleaning products. Continue rinsing the material until the overflowing water changes from a milky to slightly cloudy appearance. Any remaining cloudiness will disappear after a few hours of pump operation.

For best results when setting up a new aquarium, place rinsed sand in an empty aquarium and gently fill it with water. Start the filter system. Wait until the water is clear enough to see the back of the tank and the chemicals/pH/moderate are stable before adding fish and invertebrates.

In existing aquariums, rinse the substrate as above and mix it in small quantities into the existing sand bed for several days. When using aragonite for African cichlids or other freshwater applications, be aware that a slight cloudiness may persist until the aquarium cycles due to the high dissolution rate of calcium carbonate.
